About KVK, Hailakandi
The concept a KVK in the under privileged district of Hailakandi in Assam Barrak Valley Zone was conceived by ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, a pioneer institute of excellence in the field of research and extension since years back. Finally the KVK Hailakandi came to its existence on 31st of March 2010.
The multidisciplinary staff of the KVK have started their mission to develop the district Hailakandi as a centre of excellence in agriculture and allied sectors the motto of the KVK is to find out the thrust areas in agriculture and allied sectors and to resolve strategies accordingly. We have started our work in the areas of Integrated Farming,Varietal Evaluation, Integrated Nutrient Management , Integrated Pest Management, soil testing, soil health and fertility management, soil moisture conservation, live stock health management, introduction of improved breeds, women empowerment through SHG (Self health Group) with small scale income generating unit etc.
We also extended our mission to demonstrate the latest agricultural technologies developed by ICAR Institutes among farming community and extension personnel, testing different technologies in the socio-economic condition of the farmer of different villages of the district and accessing their production constraints. We are engaging ourselves untiredly to obtain ;the first hand feed back from the farmers field and passing it to the research system in order to keep the scientist abreast with the performance of the technologies and the farming problem so that they reorient their research for the benefit of farming community. Besides we are engaging ourselves to train as well as to develop skill among the farmers, farm women rural youth and field level extension functionaries following the principle of “learning by doing”.
